Shahid Sheikh OBE

BENEFIT: From left, County Keeper Paul Nixon, Aussie ace Justin Langer, Shahid Shaikh, Managing Director of Clifton Packaging who co-ordinated the dinner and England spinner Monty Panesar

Paul Nixon’s dash from Worcestershire last week was as well-timed as one of his trademark reverse sweeps. The County wicket-keeper was on duty with England Lions against West Indies at New Road while his benefit game against the PCA Masters took place at Grace Road.

The weather further delayed matters at Worcester, then the Lions were soundly beaten by the tourists in a game reduced to 24 overs. Undeterred, Nixon was still able to make it back to Leicester in time for a dinner staged at the ground, where he caught up with England team-mate Monty Panesar (a past victim at the afore-mentioned sweep!) and former Australian opener Justin Langer, who were guests of the Foxes hero.
